TITLE: Senior Staff Associate

PRIMARY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Coordinating Research-Related Activities of the Juvenile Justice Project

LOCATION: New York, NY

APPLICATION DATE: ISERP seeks to appoint a continuing term Senior Staff Associate, beginning March 1, 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will work with the PI to:

  1. Recruit a working group of leading current and former youth correctional administrators, coordinate the work of Youth Administrators for Justice (YAJ), organize reviews by juvenile justice administrators;
  2. Oversee the creation of a statement of principles, mission statement and other project-related statements to combine ways to effectively reduce the use of large, prison-like institutions for delinquent youth, conduct literature reviews, create and analyze data and edit, write and publish research reports;
  3. Write grant applications, oversee grant-funded work on youth justice, monitor budgets and align research plans, timelines and deliverables accordingly, prepare annual progress and final reports and work with ISERP staff to assure full compliance with University policies and government regulations and introduce and implement research processes that align with internal and external regulations;
  4. Participate in speaking engagements within and outside of the University, to disseminate research results, oversee the coordination of YAJ participants in speaking about YAJ related work and research-related events, such as town hall, news events and meetings;
  5. Develop a communications strategy to disseminate YAJ’s research, best practices and policy/practice statements and working with communications personnel to develop and maintain the YAJ web site, publicize conferences, webinars, reports, opinion pieces, social media feed and overall social media presence.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences, Communications or Public Policy.
  • At least eight years of professional experience in field or related field.
  • Must be able to work independently and handle complex and confidential information with a high level of discretion.
  • All candidates are expected to be able to work well in a team and to communicate effectively the results of their research or research activities orally and in writing.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Communications or Public Policy.
  • Should have strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills with particular ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests.
  • Should have expertise in juvenile and criminal justice laws and policies, and with basic quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Should have experience writing research reports and possess excellent presentation skills.
  • Prior experience supervising staff members is a plus.

Other considerations, including professional accomplishments and the degree of independence and level of responsibility of the position, are taken into account in making an appointment at the senior grade, who is appointed for a term, which is renewable, of up to twelve months for full- or part-time service.
