Performance Is a ‘Vehicle for Youth Development’

You could feel excitement in the air at 7 Stages Theatre in Atlanta as mentors, choreographers, young artists and stage designers prepared for a decidedly woke showcase featuring the latest collaboration between two local organizations. Youth Creates nurtures teens in theatrical pursuits, while Moving in the Spirit (MIS) employs dance.

“We believe in dance as a vehicle for youth development,” said Foluke Beveridge, MIS communication coordinator and teaching artist. “[Kids] build confidence in their voices and a willingness to take risks through input in choreography. They learn teamwork and respect for self and others from partnering. And they do all of these things in a safe, supportive environment.”

This visual piece is the first installment in Youth Today’s hands-on learning video series.
