PRESIDENT & CEO | Alliance for Children’s Rights (Los Angeles, CA)

Alliance for Children’s Rights seeks an inspirational, charismatic leader for its next President & Chief Executive Officer. The Alliance for Children’s Rights protects the rights of children and youth in poverty and in foster care. Its lawyers, advocates and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work to ensure that children have safe, permanent homes and can access the healthcare, education and financial resources they need and are legally entitled to. The Alliance also helps transition-age youth achieve self-sufficiency, and it works statewide and nationwide on policy to improve child welfare practices and policies in order to remove existing barriers. Since 1992, the Alliance for Children’s Rights has helped more than 125,000 children and youth. For more information, please visit www.kids-alliance.org.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President/CEO is responsible for driving the mission and strategic direction, as well as for the fiscal health and structural soundness of the organization. The CEO oversees an annual budget of approximately $5.7 million and a total staff of more than 50 employees in addition to over 500 pro bono attorneys and volunteers. Ideally, the new CEO will possess a record of effective leadership as the CEO or in a #2 position, preferably in the area of child welfare, education policy, children’s advocacy, mental health, or social welfare. Candidates should have experience that demonstrates strategic, visionary and compelling leadership and successful management of dynamic organizations. Although the individual could come from a variety of fields and disciplines, it would be helpful if the CEO has experience that would enable him or her to provide leadership in a complex organization. The individual should have a track record of success in working at a high senior level where fundraising is a key activity. Successful experience in general and financial management as well as strategic planning and external relations, is also important. Candidates should have a range of well-developed skills that demonstrate the ability to conceptualize, plan, implement, administer, evaluate, and develop resources. It is preferred that candidates have experience in Board development and volunteer relations. Experience working with attorneys would be a plus.
