Several hundred youths and after-school advocates gathered at the U.S. Capitol last month to protest potential cuts in federal funding for after-school programs. Speakers and performers included TV personality and former juvenile court judge Glenda Hatchett (pictured here addressing the crowd), Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Mark Bryan, lead guitarist of Hootie and the Blowfish. Advocates later met with members of Congress to discuss after-school funding. The effort was organized by the Afterschool Alliance. (866) KIDS-TODAY, http://www.afterschoolalliance.org.
