2009 Camp 2 Grow Impact Report

American Camp Association

A program to teach leadership skills through environmental issues and activities at summer camps is a positive experience for its youth participants, according to survey data and other indicators used to evaluate the program at seven camps.

Surveys showed that campers left with an understanding of what leadership meant, and their journal entries reflected their understanding of leadership as working well with others, having good personal traits and skills, being responsible, acting as a role model and communicating with others.

Camp 2 Grow is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. and was created by the American Camp Association (ACA) to provide a learning platform for youth leadership in a natural environment. A total of 840 youths in 24 camps completed the program last summer.
