Workforce Investment Act Needs Updating, Agency Says

Jobs for the Future (JFF)

There’s no shortage of ideas on how to retool the Workforce Investment Act in order to make it more effective at getting youths educated, trained and employed, particularly if they are disengaged, hard to reach and don’t have a lot of academic achievements under their belt. Among other things, this report espouses “modernization” of WIA by having Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) increase post-secondary attainment and career advance pathways, and by doing more to leverage the power of public-private partnerships. It also calls for federal funds to incentivize innovative and effective approaches to workforce programming. Free, 16 pages. (617) 728.4446 http://www.jff.org/Documents/reauthorizingWIA2009.pdf
