Banned Books, Chapter 2

WASHINGTON POST

Conservative Christian students and parents recently gathered outside a Virginia high school to protest the banning of anti-homosexual books they tried to donate to the school’s library over the past year. Their effort was organized by Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family, which selected and supplied books the organization felt would add a conservative Christian perspective to bookshelves at schools. Librarians said they banned the books because they did not meet the county’s standard of having been positively reviewed by three professionally recognized journals. Organizers said the books would bring a balance to school libraries, but some librarians said the books were heavy on scripture and light on research. Oct. 3, http://www.washingtonpost.com.
