Hack at Juvenile Justice

The following is a response to the December story, “For Juvenile Justice, a Panel of One,” about grant awards by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and its administrator, Robert Flores.

Robert Flores’ latest action simply underscores my belief that he is an incompetent political hack, akin to the infamous “Brownie, you’re doing a great job” of Katrina fame. Regardless of political party and ideology, the only true currency in public affairs is one’s word. Mr. Flores lied, just like the administration he serves in has lied to the American people.

Thankfully, we are near the end of this political nightmare. But the damage appears to have been done, and Congress, which is controlled by the other party, has lacked the backbone and votes to reverse some of the administration’s actions. The elections of 2008 matter a great deal.
