Family Values at Work

MultiState Working Families Consortium

This report argues for a change in government standards to better promote a family-friendly work environment, particularly in dealing with absenteeism caused by caring for children and the elderly. The authors assert that current family leave laws that offer unpaid leave are unrealistic, because very often both parents need to work in order to make ends meet, and that the government should instead push employers to offer a minimum number of paid sick days and family leave insurance funds. The consortium is made up of labor/community coalitions that strive to promote more easily accessed family leave policies. Free. 7 pages.
