International Herald Tribune/The Associated Press

Teens are becoming the new face of the gay rights movement in the United States, reflecting a growing cultural acceptance that is empowering gays to come out of the closet at ever-younger ages, say gay rights activists. They credit the political advocacy of gay youth, their straight friends and children of same-sex parents with recent victories on legislation against harassment based on sexual orientation. “There are more out people now, from openly gay teachers to openly gay classmates,” said Candace Gingrich, youth outreach coordinator for the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay rights advocacy group.
