The Vast Majority of Federally Eligible Children Did Not Receive Child Care Assistance in FY 2000

This report found that only about 14 percent of children eligible for the federal Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) received assistance in FY 2000. The report provides background information on those social services programs and the Social Services Block Grant, analyzes data on children who are eligible and who received assistance, and estimates future needs. “Without new funding, problems of unmet needs will get worse,” the report warns. 12 pages.
