Opening Doors: Students’ Perspectives on Juggling Work, Family and College

Continuing education at a community college has the potential to dramatically increase a student’s marketable skills, yet few students complete these additional courses, according to this study of students from six community colleges. Students had numerous reasons for quitting, but most cited family obligations, employment pressures and lack of financial aid. This report includes many useful findings to improve community college programs nationwide. Suggestions include effective marketing, on-campus childcare and long-term career counseling. 123 pages.
